Meet our Staff

Mark and Val
The MiltnersWe’re the two woodticks who duped the bank into trusting us with the payment book to fund Planet PRPC. We were naturally drawn to this business as we blessed with parents who enjoyed spending time in a canoe. We have two beautiful kids. Annie, our daughter, is 25, recently married and lives in Holland. Our son Jacob at 19 is already twice the man his dad is and we’re thankful to have him still working with us. We all delight in helping families and friends enjoy memory-filled days Up North as well as providing seasonal work for the PRPC Superstaff. Away from work, we enjoy human-powered recreation: canoeing, kayaking, skiing, biking and hunting.
Our 26 year old daughter has been working with PRPC her whole life. Homeschooled through high school, Annie graduated from Christian Liberty Academy in 2002. She then studied a year at both Baker and Northwestern Michigan Colleges before transferring to and graduating from Cornerstone University. Married in July of 2009, Annie now teaches at a charter school in Walker. We’re hoping to coax her north to help out when she can in 2011. Annie enjoys snowboarding and skiing, kayaking, animals, children, missions work and all things outdoors. Favorite quote: “Dad, you’re mean.”
AndrewAndrew is another one of PRPC’s outdoor addicts. He graduated from Cadillac Heritage Christian School in 2000 and attended Northwestern Michigan College’s School of Aviation. His interests include flying, paddling, fishing, hunting, waterskiing, traveling, meeting new people, campfires, swimming and sailing. Andrew and Rebecca, the one with the beautiful smile, got married last June in one of God’s natural cathedrals along the banks of the Pine River. Favorite quote: “Not all those who wander are lost.”
craigCraig has contributed his considerable talents and energy to PRPC since 1992 when he graduated from Pine River High School. Craig graduated from MSU and has a real job running a survey crew for Axin Land Surveys. Craig met the love of his life, Jennifer, when they both worked for PRPC. Now married, Craig and Jenny have two precocious children: Gabby is an 11 year old brainiac and 9 year old Maddox is their patience tester. After shooting straight lines as a surveyor all week, Craig enjoys trading punchlines with the PRPC crew on Saturdays. His interests include almost every sport and outdoor activity. Favorite quote: “If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.”
Holly is another PRPC natural. She graduated from Cadillac High School this year and is headed for the University of Redlands to study photography and graphic design. Currently, she has set her sights on a career with an outdoor magazine. Interests include snowboarding, wakeboarding, downhill ski racing, waterskiing, surfing, traveling and photography. Favorite musicians include Jack Johnson, Dispatch, and classic rock bands like CCR and Steve Miller.
Casey2010 will be Casey’s fifth season with PRPC. She graduated from Cadillac High School and MSU majoring in Pre-Veterinary/Animal Science. Now dowing post-graduate studies, Casey has a passion for animals. Her other interests include horseback riding, skiing, biking, fishing, camping swimming, canoeing, kayaking and rafting the Pine River. Favorite quote: “Live every day as if it were your last with no regrets.”
Brandon and his sister Casey are third generation Pine River natives. He grew up fishing and hunting along the Pine River with his grandparents, the notorious Carl and Betty Fortelka (they founded Carl's Canoe Livery back in the late 60’s). When not working at PRPC or FPS Archery in Cadillac, Brandon enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, and canoing all seasons of the year here in northern Michigan.
StacyStacey has been with PRPC since 2003. After graduating from Brethren High School in 2005, she studied pre-med at the University of Northern Colorado for a year. She’s back home after transferring to the University of Michigan. Her main interests include rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, reading, traveling, and music. As much as she loves the outdoors, Stacey can’t pass up a day at the mall. Favorite books: George Orwell’s 1984, and Homer’s The Iliad and The Odyssey.
TimTim graduated from Cadillac High School and is now studying Aviation Flight Science at Western Michigan University. Tim dreams of launching his own small airline. If you’ve ever seen the sitcom Wings, you know the kind of airline Tim would run. One thing we can tell you for sure, the guy is always smiling. When not in school or getting stuff done around PRPC, Tim enjoys snow skiing, water skiing, flying, golfing, Frisbee, hunting, fishing and hanging out with his friends.
Our son Jake graduated last year from Cadillac Heritage Christian. After working the season at PRPC, he paddled for 16 days through the Grand Canyon on a self-guided trip with family members and friends. When not Velcroed to his computer, Jake loves paddling his Jackson kayak, rock climbing, archery, the shooting sports, mixed-martial arts training, and spending time in the woods. Favorite rivers: Montreal, Salmon and Colorado. Favorite movie: The Anchorman.
Leah, another vibrant PRPC gal, has helped hold the fort here since 2008. Leah graduated from Cadillac High School in 2008 and now is a student at Calvin College where she plays basketball for the nationally ranked Lady Knights. She comes from an outdoor family, enjoys paddling, jogging, a little deer hunting, and thoroughly enjoys schooling her dad on the basketball court.
For the past four seasons, Kayl has been another invaluable staffer who helps out every weekend he can. After graduating from Cadillac High School, Kayl studied H-VAC at Ferris State before going to work full-time for Johnson Construction. Despite working six or seven days a week, he still somehow manages a good schedule of fishing and hunting anything that moves. Like the rest of the PRPC gang, Kayl gets his canoes wet as often as possible.
Jamie is another in a long line of home-schoolers we’ve been fortunate to have work with us. Like most PRPC staff members, Jamie is a bundle of energy who is ready to charge 24/7. He lives with his family on a hobby farm in the woods that they share with lots of goats, chickens, pigs, a dog and cat. Jamie never met a job he didn’t like. His interests include: climbing, paddling, auto mechanics, riding his moped around the countryside, and helping out with his Youth Group.
Claire is one of the third generation of the Shankland family that has kept the PRPC boat afloat for 41 years now. Claire is a sophomore at Cadillac Heritage Christian. She loves to hang out at the cabin her family has on the Pine, loves to kayak, water and snow ski, volleyball and rock climbing.
Gabby and Maddox
Gabby and Maddox are the resident PRPC interns. Not exactly resident, but as often as we can get them. It’s pretty tough to wipe the smile off of either of their faces as they’re buzzing around the place completing tasks as quickly as their legs will allow. Both are sports nuts which is a genetic thing that came from her parents who coincidentally, met while working with us many moons ago. It is so, so nice to have another pair of hard-charging second generation friends making us look good.
