Negative Trace

Leave less behind

PRPC’s Annual Negative Trace/Positive Vibe Contest

We’re sponsoring this contest to acknowledge and thank those Pine and Manistee River fans who give back by practicing the negative trace ethos. Negative Trace is the natural outgrowth of the Leave No Trace ethos. What it boils down to is leaving a place we visit a little better than we found it. It’s about being a responsible caretaker of our land and water resources. We are so thankful that so many of you have become practitioners.

Here’s how to win the NT/PV Contest: With the help of your family and/or friends, remove a big, nasty pile of trash from the Pine River, the Manistee River, and/or the valleys through which they flow. Take a picture. Biggest, ugliest pile of trash wins.

The Prize: Nature rewards this hands-on stewardship with a Positive Vibe. Those who practice Negative Trace consider this sufficient payment, but we’re adding a little cash to sweeten the pot and pass along some Positive Vibe of our own. It’s not a lot, but enough to buy burgers or pizza at the post-contest celebration and keep the vibe alive.

On November 1st, $100 goes to whoever sends in the photograph of the biggest, ugliest pile of litter removed from the Pine/Manistee River area. Please also email a photo of your smiling NT Crew along with their names and the stretch of river or river valley you cleaned. Include any secrets, tools, or techniques you employed that others may want to know.

The only catch is that we want your permission to use your entry photo(s) on PRPC’s website or other advertising media. To comply with privacy laws, please note that any photos you submit to the contest with an identifiable person or persons must be accompanied by the model release form provided below. If the subject or subjects are under age 18, a parent/guardian needs to sign the model release form. You may mail the form to: Pine River Paddlesports Center 9590 South M-37 Wellston, MI 49689
